Wedding Cake Topper - Do It Yourself!

Hello everyone! I've got a great project that is easy to do yourself and is sure to make you smile! My sister is getting married soon, so I was given the task of creating a cake topper for them. It is made from a small wooden platform, and three wooden dolls that can be purchased at your local craft store. They are raw wood and painted with acrylic paint. From there it is up to your imagination to fill in the rest! I got the details from the bride about what her hair would look like (and took one of the "heads" from the smaller wooden dolls - which came in a pack of three - and used a glue gun to secure it to the back of the head, then painted over it) as well as her jewlery and the flowers and clothes they would be wearing, to make it as personalized as possible.

I added my sweet niece Harper onto the cake topper as well, and used a bit of lace trim that I had in my sewing box to make an adjustable veil. I attached the veil with a hot glue gun (the glue was very easy to paint over with acrylic paint).  I got a plethora of inspiration from the many adorable versions of this craft on Pinterest...so take the many examples out there add those personal touches (beards, glasses, hair color, etc.) and voila! I preferred the natural look of the wood so I left as much of it showing as possible. Also, if you'd like a more shiny, glossy look to the finished project I would spray the whole assembled topper with a clear gloss spray to seal it (BEFORE you attach the veil!). I am confident this will be a wedding memory they will keep long after the wedding is over!
Would you like a cake topper for your wedding or party? Do you have questions about making this project at home that I can answer for you? Portraits are unique, personal and special treasures to those who recieve them. A painting also lasts for many more years than traditional holiday gifts and having a portrait created for someone (or for yourself!) ensures a wonderful keepsake and memory that is sure to be treasured for years to come. Traditionally, portraits take 6-8 weeks to be completed so we are rapidly entering the holiday season! Order yours today!

Welcome to another edition of my blog. I am proud to unveil my latest painting, Jack Sparrow the golden retriever! Jack is a beloved pet (and a handsome fellow at that) and was comissioned by a family member as a gift for work collegues. This painting was done on a 20"x 20" stretched canvas with acrylic paints.
